IPM is set apart because of the diversity of subjects. It enables the students to think, and do so keeping societal progress in mind. It also enables the student to recognize his or her area of interest, since it gives a flavor of everything. Students are given space to experiment.
Waking up an hour before class, and sprinting up a hill(that would have been an arduous struggle on an ordinary day), stuffing a loaf of bread into your mouth to push it down with cold milk and rushing into a classic MBA-styled air-conditioned classroom signals the beginning of an average day at IPM.
The course is unconventional, and was started because of India’s dearth of rigorous management courses at the undergraduate level.
The day starts late, unlike most conventional undergraduate collages, and ends late as well.
Since the course is open to students of all Backgrounds, the diversity is immense. The discussion at the crowded mess and an Ethics session as brimming with perspective.
The course is math rigorous as well. With complicated calculus equations made easy for Humanities students and thought provoking ethical perspectives made easy for science students.
The classes have a critical “class participation” which opens the floor for discussion. Students are taught sociology to understand the prevailing and impending problems that might plague the country, to understand the dynamics and ways in which people grow, mingle and change. Psychology is taught to understand the patterns and triggers of consumption, along with understanding changing trends of the same.Political science is taught In order to understand the country’s stance and place in the world, the intricacies of power and domination.
All of these perspective giving humanities subjects are weaved together by microeconomics, statistics and mathematics. Analysis of data, creation of ideal models for analysis of patters, are only a few things an IPMmer learns.
